Set off for Mille Miglia 2011

25 SLR customers, all of them SLR. CLUB members, set off for this year's Mille Miglia from Stuttgart-Möhringen on 11 May 2011. With their classics of the future acting as back-up vehicles, they will be joining the main field of this classic car rally. This is the 7th time that SLR. CLUB members are taking part in the traditional Italian race. The exclusive field comprises 16 SLR Coupés, Roadsters and 722 S, along with 9 SLR Stirling Moss vehicles.

The Mille Miglia 2011 takes place from 12 to 15 May over a route from Brescia via Bologna, Rome and Florence back to Brescia and will this year be commemorating the historic win by Rudolf Caracciola and Mercedes-Benz. Driving an SSKL racing car, Caracciola was the first non-Italian to win the race, on 13 April 1931.

And, once again, Mercedes-Benz is a sponsor of the Mille Miglia this year. The Stuttgart works team will be taking part in the Mille Miglia with a Mercedes-Benz SS, an SSK, and a 300 SLR (W 196 S) racing car, bringing back memories of Mercedes-Benz's great victory in what was probably the most famous 1000-mile race of all time: in 1955, Stirling Moss and his co-driver Denis Jenkinson won the Mille Miglia in a 300 SLR in the fastest time ever achieved.
